Today I want to talk about trust - specifically about the layer of trust that shared grade vocabulary creates.
The recyclable materials trade has a trust problem that precedes counterparty verification, inspection services, or escrow. The most basic form of trust breakdown in this market is description mismatch: the material that arrives at the buyer's facility is not what the listing described. OCC arrives at 12% moisture when the specification said 8%. Contamination exceeds the agreed tolerance. Plastic recyclate described as meeting a certain recyclability standard does not perform accordingly.
When this happens, claims are raised, relationships suffer, and the cost is borne by everyone in the chain.
Kiwi AI addresses this at the description layer. When a generator selects OCC-11 on Inacsys, the listing is built from ISRI specification - a shared industry reference point. The contamination tolerance, moisture limit, and prohibited materials list are not the seller's interpretation. They are the standard the global recovered paper trade has agreed on. The seller is confirming their material meets a defined standard.
This is not verification. Inacsys does not yet have physical inspection, laboratory testing, or counterparty credit verification in Phase 1. Those are capabilities we are building toward. What Kiwi AI provides today is shared vocabulary - so that when a question arises, both buyer and seller are measuring against the same industry standard, not against a vague free-text claim.
Shared vocabulary is the foundation of trust. Trust is the foundation of price transparency. Price transparency is the foundation of a market.
