India just made recycled plastic mandatory, not optional.

In March 2026, India's Ministry of Environment notified new rules requiring companies to use a minimum percentage of recycled plastic in their packaging. Not just collect it. Not just report on it. Actually use it.

The required recycled content rises every year, moving from 30 percent toward 60 percent by 2029. More than 60,000 producers, importers, and brand owners are already registered under India's Extended Producer Responsibility framework.

This is one of the most significant policy shifts in circular economy regulation anywhere in the world this year, and it signals where global packaging standards are heading.

We are watching closely. More from us soon.
